A Hybrid Microscope?

This seems to be some sort of hybrid microscope.  I think dad put it together from parts of others but I'm not entirely sure.  If you can identify the parts or type of microscope for me, I would surely appreciate it.

There's Cyrillic writing on two of the parts, then the one part says Made in Switzerland and then the light supply is Bausch & Lomb.  I'm thoroughly confused.

  1. That looks to be a zoom optic stereomicroscope. It is used to look at larger objects than a traditional microscope... and can change magnification with a twist of a knob.

I would donate this to a elementary school if I were you. The kids would LOVE it.

    1. The light source is American, the ring light is Swiss, and the rest of the stereoscope is Russian... I gotta say this is a patchwork piece of art.

    2. Dad was brilliant at adapting things to fit his wants. I got some of that from him. I might donate this particular piece. I am not sure what else to do with it, lol!

  2. I see the wood wheel as a knob... so I think your assessment of him is spot on.

It's probably worth around $200-300 (possibly $400), so register that as a "write off" if you do donate it to a school... which I think would be the most useful application for this system.

  3. I am thinking the local Junior College might appreciate it and have someone better qualified to take care of it than the local school system. I'll see what mom says about it. Unfortunately she knows less than I do about microscopes.

    1. The entire microscope was in good shape and I know he was going to use it the day he passed away. He had a fly under it, pinned down from a couple of days before. I haven't done anything with it yet. I have a LOT of stuff I still have to go through before I can do anything with it. I'm going through the microscopes he wasn't currently using first. Then I'll deal with the ones he used regularly.

  8. How large is the collection of scopes he was not using? If you believe some of the scopes were non functioning best thing to do is to bundle 2 or three as non working parts scopes. But if you are sure like this on is working I would list it on it's own.
In another post you mention you are on the other side of Illinois? So I assume you are in the southern portion of the state.

    1. I've found a total of 7 microscopes. Three he was actively using, two he had for parts and one that is mostly parts, plus the vintage Zeiss. I haven't tested the two that he was keeping for parts yet. Plus there's a drawer full of objectives and other parts that I don't have a clue as to what they are exactly...

  10. Keep posting like I said I know a fair amount about the stereo scopes. But if you post enough information I can do some research on ebay. I will continue to keep an eye on this and help where I can.

    1. I will eventually get around to listing it. If you would like to perhaps buy it outright you can email me at twelveof8@gmail.com. Sorry it took so long to get back to you but with the nice weather I've had to focus on home repair and maintenance for my mom.
