Holiday Weekend

Ashes

I'll be stopping all the auctions next Monday.  I am driving my mother to Colorado to visit my brother and sister-in-law.  He is building a box to hold dad's ashes.  There will be two medallions on the box.  One for organ donation and the other from the US government for his service in the army during the Vietnam War.  We will be gone for two to three weeks.  Mom needs some time to be away and relax.  Time to mourn as well.  We have been working so hard to fix up the house ourselves and sell the microscope equipment that neither of us has had time to process it all.  In addition, one of her younger brothers died in April.  Since she is 72 years old, she can't make the drive alone.  When we get back we will put the auctions back up on ebay and I'll resume posting more on the blog.  Thanks to all of you for following along and all your help.  I'll be back soon.

Stress

Well, things haven't been getting posted for sale like I'd like them to be.  It's been very stressful here.  One of my mom's brothers is in ICU out in California and we have hope that he's going to pull through this but all of her siblings are in different states and she's the one he gave power of attorney to so...  I will hold off on posting any more of the microscopes or objectives for right now because I'm going to Arkansas for a few days with some friends to try mining for diamonds, lol.  With luck I'll come back refreshed and ready to post more microscope parts.  Thanks again to everyone who has helped out.  I very much appreciate it.

Update on the Biological Microscope

The biological microscope listed here:  http://twelveofeight.blogspot.com/2016/02/biological-microscope.html will be listed on my mom's eBay account on Monday.  I'm going to sell it as is, listing it as non-working but I don't actually know for sure that it doesn't.  Dad had it stuck in his workshop for parts but it looks to me like most of the parts are there.  If you have any need of a microscope like this I suggest you jump on it when I list it.

Revisions

I got the Zeiss Winkel listed on eBay for mom today.  Here are the photos I posted with it.

The objectives are all the Zeiss Winkel brand.  There's two eyepieces on the microscope that are 12.5x, plus a 12.5x and an 8x for the monocular head.  Any comments?

Lifting of a weight

A friend of mine electronically introduced me to a friend of his and Rajesh came by the house last night.  I now have a list of microscope parts and names to put to parts that I had no clue what they were.  It's like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders.  I will be setting up an account on ebay tomorrow so that we can begin to sell some of these items.  I'll post the link to the account once I've got it set up.  In the meantime I have vintage items that my dad collected plus some loose gemstones he had bought listed on Various Eclectic Items by VariousEclecticItems on Etsy.  I am so very thankful to Rajesh.  He was so nice and taught me a lot.  Words can't express how grateful I am for his kindness in helping me out.

I got lucky.  I have a friend who works in the Chemistry Department at SIU in Carbondale, IL and he has a friend who is a grad student.  Said grad student is going to come over and help me sort through some of the stuff that I don't know what it is.  WOOHOO!!  I will keep you updated.

Needing Identification

Rest and Relaxation

I'm going to take a few days off for some rest and relaxation.  When I come back I'm most likely going to list the vintage Zeiss on ebay, along with some other goodies I've found in dad's office.

Biological Microscope

Ok, so I found another microscope dad was apparently using for parts.

But it doesn't tell me much.  I know there's parts to this microscope missing.  And I have no idea if anyone would even want it.  And I can't seem to find one for sale anywhere.  Here's the rest of the photos.

Now, I know this isn't normal but this thing has battery cables coming out of it and dad had a power source for it.  No, I didn't try it to see if the light came on, lol.  But this isn't normal is it?  Does anyone have any idea who might want this for parts? 

Lomo

I've found quite a few Lomo objectives which isn't surprising.  One of the microscopes that dad used frequently was a Lomo.  I've been trying to figure out which model it is and I can't seem to get anyone by phone or by email at the Lomo headquarters in the US (up by Chicago).  The phone number I've tried is the one listed for the US, Canada and Mexico and I've tried both emails.  The page is http://www.lomoplc.com/wheretobuyFrames.htm and so I think I'm not going to get any help from them.
This is the microscope in question.

I appreciate all the help I've been getting with the comments about the microscopes and objective lenses.  I am, however, having a problem making sure I keep up with all of them.  I have changed the settings so all comments have to be approved by me.  Not because anyone is posting anything that's offensive or anything but simply so I can keep up with all the comments.  I'm afraid I'll miss a vital piece of information if I don't have to sift through the comments before they post.  Being as incredibly busy as I am it's just a way to make my life easier right now.  Thanks again to all who have commented.  I truly appreciate it.

OK, I think I'm pretty sure that the first two of these originally came with the vintage Zeiss microscope.  With that being said, there is a good possibility that I'm making assumptions and that there's more Zeiss specific objectives that I haven't found yet.  I'm still finding objectives everywhere...

Update on the Zeiss Junior

OK, I have made a little headway with the Zeiss Junior.  It looks like dad turned it into a stereoscopic microscope.  I'm still not sure which objectives belonged to it originally but I've found a wooden case for the microscope, the light source and another part that I am not sure what it's called.

Inside the case on the upper right are two other eyepieces branded Zeiss and empty objective cases.  I feel like Alice and things are getting curiouser and curiouser.

Vintage Zeiss?

This microscope is possibly vintage and possibly cobbled together as well.  I couldn't find anything on it at the Zeiss website.  I found a similar one on eBay but it had 4 objective lenses, not three.  Here's the pictures with the wording and numbers in them repeated under the photo.

The eye pieces are both marked Zeiss Winkel 12.5x.  There is a mechanism for adjusting the position of the slide that is marked Zeiss Winkel 164273.  There is no light source for this microscope.  If anybody can confirm anything about this microscope for me, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank you!

A Hybrid Microscope?

This seems to be some sort of hybrid microscope.  I think dad put it together from parts of others but I'm not entirely sure.  If you can identify the parts or type of microscope for me, I would surely appreciate it.

There's Cyrillic writing on two of the parts, then the one part says Made in Switzerland and then the light supply is Bausch & Lomb.  I'm thoroughly confused.

Here's the story...

Ok.  This is the story.  My dad died suddenly on January 6th.  He was 72 years old.  His hobby was microbiology.  My mom and I have been attempting to assess his microscopes, lenses and cameras to figure out what they are worth so we can find them all good homes.  The problem is that my mom knows nothing about microscopes.  I barely know anything about microscopes.  So we are having a tough time.  I've been trying but I just don't know enough about it to be able to identify the different lenses and determine their worth.  So I've started this blog so I can post pictures and maybe someone can help me determine what they are and maybe even what they are worth.  I appreciate any and all help I can get.
